Booyah Mario World – Stage 5

Stage 5 of my kaizo-style Mario hack called Booyah Mario world. A comparatively short and easy level, primarily because the level it was based on was very short as well. After having relatively standard levels before, from the previous level on, I wanted to get more gimmicky with the level design. I originally wanted to leave the water layer out in favor of moving layer 2 elements (think: that yellow shit that crushed you in Donut Plains 2), but I cut this idea and kept the water instead. This level also marks the introduction of the Flying Hammer Bro. I had been dying to use one in my hack before, but because of sprite memory issues and not finding a place where they’d fit, I cut them out. The urchins (those spiky purple balls) are usually underwater creatures, but they make for surprisingly good land obstacles as well. Keep in mind this video is tool-assisted, being played with frequent savestating and at 50% speed. ~ scrimpy

Is Attitude Sinking My Boat to Success?

Having a bad attitude in an interview might very well be endemic to your overall character. If it is, this is a serious character flaw and one that needs to be addressed. Such an attitude might be the result of an anti authority posture you have adopted over the years, perhaps as early as your childhood. For some reason you might resent all authority figures, be they parents, teachers, police or job supervisors.

As we are not psychologists or social workers here at Derrymullen, and don’t profess to be, we cannot advise you if you do indeed have an aversion to authority figures. Our best advice would be to seek appropriate help in this area. Contrary to what society may espouse, having a job is a privilege. In most cases the prospective employer has not sought you out, but you have solicited the employer for a job. Many people falsely believe they deserve a job and some even feel they are entitled to it. This thinking will most certainly produce a bad attitude.

In reality, we deserve very little in this life. In every culture, having a job or owning a business is one of the key goals in life. Like all other resources in this world, jobs are often a scarce commodity. Think on these things before an interview and it may help you develop the right attitude. Many job candidates are able to mask a bad attitude in an interview, only to have it discovered after they have been hired. Few things are more destructive to the goals of a manager than having a subordinate with a bad attitude. It can diminish the morale of everyone on the team. We have all worked with people like this and know the difficulty it can create.

For this reason, most trained interviewers will go out of their way in an interview to make the candidate reveal tendencies toward a bad attitude. They do this by asking questions that reveal your attitude, without you even knowing it’s happening. A simple question like, “What did you like most and least about your last supervisor?” can open up a floodgate of catharsis. Another question might be, “What did you like least about working in a team environment?” Even if you have a great attitude, questions like these could torpedo your chances of being hired.

Enthusiasm for work or a particular assignment can be contagious and, at the very least, it can improve team morale. One of the greatest obstacles facing all managers is motivating staff. Some experts say you can’t motivate another person to do anything, but only influence a person towards self-motivation. As a hiring manager, I would take notice of a candidate’s enthusiasm and attitude. An employee can be trained or taught to do his or her job, but it’s up to the individual as to how well he or she will actually perform the duties of the position. Job incentives can only do so much. But, offer me three subordinates with a great attitude and enthusiastic fervor and I will trade 10 mediocre workers for them in a heartbeat.

Managers may not know it, but they seek subordinates that will make their job easier. Be the type of employee, who makes life a little easier for the boss and you will become invaluable. Some are thinking if I do that, my boss will only take advantage of me. This may be true to some extent, depending on the manager. Nevertheless, your reputation will be enhanced for your efforts. People notice devoted workers and sometimes the one who notices may be the one who promotes you to a higher position.

The best way to advertise your website is by writing articles and submitting them to article directories. Each article should include a URL in the author’s resource section that allows readers to click to a web page of your choice – preferably a page that expands on the topic of the article.

This benefits you in a number of ways: The article is published on its own page in each directory and each gives you a back link to the URL quoted in the resource. The published page can be listed on Google and the other search engines in the same way as any other web page can be, and many of these appear on the first page of Google for the keyword for which the article has been optimized.

However, that’s assuming that the article has been properly optimized for the keyword, and that is a skill in itself. Many good writers have no idea how to go about optimizing a web page using good keyword density and latent semantic indexing principles. LSI, use of keywords and the use of semantic relevance to indicate the relevance of a web page to search terms used by search engine users is a skill that has to be learned, and part of that is understanding how search engine algorithms work. Professional article writers understand, but others have to be taught these skills.

Writing articles can become a chore rather than the fun it should be, and you will eventually see your web pages drop down the listings till they disappear altogether. That will certainly happen if you submit the same article to every different directory and ezine.
